Artboard-4-copy-4-8

Current Scenario: Cyber Criminals are focusing on large industrial enterprises, the BFSI sector and national critical infrastructure and even the general public since there are greater chances today of succeeding in their attacks; making off with money and inflicting devastating damage; yet remain untraced. These attacks are growing in size and complexity. The losses suffered by different organizations companies and the general public clearly point to the ubiquity of these attacks and the widespread expertise available with attackers. The growth in the complexity and size of cybercrimes has resulted in a strong need to have comprehensive forensic processes run by those who understand both technology and law and are able to challenge some of the best technical brains behind cybercrimes. The competence of cybercriminals today surpasses the general competence of forensic professionals who are either investigating the crime or are supporting such investigations. It seems as if every week a major corporation, government office or retailer or a common man suffers from hacking, resulting in compromised personal information of customers. Recent surveys pointed out that 79% of businesses suffered a cyber security incident within the last year.

These threats grow every day and the future of the profession relies on workforce and by 2021, it is said that the cyber security job shortage will be 1.5 million. Studies also shows that exposing students to cyber security studies earlier in their education can help with the perception. Taking into account the requirement emerging for protection of information technology infrastructure in the country as well as to serve the export market, the demand for cyber security professionals will be very high in the coming years. Increasingly, as companies move more employee data online and consumers shop online, sensitive information is vulnerable to being hacked. As a result, the need for cyber security professionals is growing each year, while the availability of workers with those skills is not increasing. The proposed programme will be dedicated to preparing digital forensics professionals through teaching, training and research. It will be a dedication to developing new approaches in the detection, preservation and analysis of digital evidence. The program will also facilitate databases to facilitate digital forensic profiling, digital fraud investigation. The proposed programme will ensure in bringing radical changes in the field of Digital Forensics, Cyber Intelligence and Malware Forensics with a vision to inspire today’s brightest researchers to make a major impact in cyber world by generating innovative ideas and pursuing their research to become pioneers in the field of cyber security and also take initiative to build knowledge capacity & skill development for the community of academic, government and law enforcement. The competency gap together with a strong need to build skill sets to meet the growing demand in various aspects of cybercrime management has been a primary trigger in starting the new course in Cyber Security.

M.Tech in computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Forensics and Information Security)

The Master of Technology program in Computer science with specialization in  Cyber Forensics and Information Security at College of Engineering Kallooppara combines the disciplines of technology, business, organizational behavior, and law. As new technological innovations continue to proliferate in our society, so do the opportunities for technology exploitation. In this program, students learn techniques used to detect, respond to, and prevent network intrusions. They also master broader concepts such as the responsible use of resources, the appropriate management of risks, and the alignment of information technology with the organization. Converting them to a computer investigating specialist is the main objective of this program.

Cyber forensics, also called computer forensics or digital forensics, is the process of extracting information and data from computers to serve as digital evidence – for civil purposes or, in many cases, to prove and legally prosecute cybercrime. With technology changing and evolving on a daily basis, cyber forensic professionals must continually keep pace and educate themselves on the new techniques to collect this data. They are tasked with being an expert in forensic techniques and procedures, standards of practice, and legal and ethical principles that will assure the accuracy, completeness and reliability of the digital evidence.

CYBER CLUB Activities

The Cyber Club at our college has successfully completed a series of engaging and informative activities designed to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in the field of cybersecurity. Kicking off with the Foundation Class for Cybersecurity Semester 1, the club provided a strong base for new members, equipping them with essential cybersecurity concepts. The creative spirit of our members was highlighted during the Cyber Club Logo Competition, which saw enthusiastic participation and innovative designs, leading up to the grand Cyber Club Inauguration event.

Focusing on the crucial topic of cyber security, the club hosted multiple activities under the banner of “Cyber Wednesday” with events like CYBER JAGROOKTA DIWAS in October and November 2023. These events raised awareness about cyber threats and safe practices. Career Guidance on Cyber Security sessions were also conducted to help students understand the career opportunities in this rapidly growing field.

The Byte Battle Quiz Competition was another highlight, testing students’ knowledge in a fun and competitive manner. To further prepare students for successful careers in technology, workshops on Enabling Yourself for a Successful Career in Technology were organized. Our club also played a pivotal role in the Smart India Hackathon 2023 by hosting an internal hackathon, which encouraged innovative problem-solving skills among participants.

In collaboration with the EC Council, the club facilitated CSCU Certification training and examinations, ensuring our students are industry-certified cybersecurity professionals. The MoU Signing Ceremony with M/s Alibi Inc., Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram marked a significant milestone, strengthening our commitment to providing quality cybersecurity education.

The club’s dedication to continuous learning was evident through various events such as Cyber Security and Cyber Literacy sessions, Cyber Security Study Jams, and discussions on Current Trends in Cyber Security. Additionally, we explored the future of cyber-physical systems with the event Fortifying Cyber-Physical Systems: Safeguarding the Future.

Through these diverse and impactful activities, our Cyber Club has not only educated but also inspired students to pursue careers in cybersecurity, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in this dynamic field.

The various Surveys conducted by the Government and Non- Governmental Organizations indicated the lack of employability skills for the Youth of the Country. In order to solve this issue, the Government has taken different steps which includes the formation of the new portfolio in the area of Skill development, the formation of the National Skill Qualification Framework, measures to combat the lack of skills and programmes to train the individuals in their area of interest to suit the industry needs. Such programmes are incorporated as a part of the curriculum as Value added courses. These courses help a particular individual to develop their own skills in their chosen field of the study.

College of Engineering Kallooppara in tune with the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) also offers several value-added programs that will benefit the students to expertise in their fields of study and to acquire required skills. A Skill Development Cell is exclusively formed for this. The Govt. of Kerala has supported for setting up a Skill Delivery Platform Kerala (SDPK) infrastructure costing Rs.65 lakhs in the institution. An Advanced Skill Development Centre (ASDC) is also sanctioned by the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Kerala. Several courses are offered through this platform.
